The best I could do

It’s so hard to say you need someone.
To despite popular belief, admit that you aren’t perfect.
That you aren’t you without them
That you need them to find you.
That you need them to be with you.
That you need them to show you the way.
That you need them to just sit in comfortable silence.
That you need a shoulder to cry on.
A person to be there when summer is gone.
Someone to be your companion.
Someone with whom you can fight a battalion.
All I needed from you was a smile.
To convince myself, that it was all fine.
It wasn’t, we both know,
The best I could do for us,
Was letting you go.
But maybe, somewhere, someday,
You’ll read this and say
‘We were a great pair, the two of us’
We had to end, though,
Like all good things must.

This poem, is based on real life events

Everyone’s had to let someone close to them go, haven’t they? If you haven’t, believe me, you’re very lucky. This poem is for one such person, who I loved with all my heart. I had to let them go, because holding on to it, would’ve been an insult to all those glorious moments we had.

Letting someone go doesn’t mean you stop caring about them. It means you accept the past and enjoy the future.

This took a deep turn, didn’t it?

I’ll leave the comments open to all thoughts today. Let the flood gates of your brain OPENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.

  1. *Sobs into a tissue paper*
This is the most beautiful thing I came across today! It has such a deep meaning, what a unique poem!
This was really touching, and quite sad. It’s hard losing someone, even I’ve been through it.
You’re so so sooooooo good at poetry!

  3. Oh Sep this is so relatable, I got teary eyed. I’ve let many of my best of friends go, it wasn’t easy. As you said, not letting them go would be an insult to all the memories we’ve had. You should get that framed somewhere.
And the first few lines~~~Being needy doesn’t mean you’re weak, you need that person around you to be happy. Beautifully written Sep.
With your permission, could I mention your poem in one of my posts coming soon? I loved it so much, I’d want my readers to see this.

Oh yeah, same here, I’ve had to leave so many best friends, and it really does hurt.
